Recently Xiaomi announced a new sub-brand Poco which will aim at making powerful smartphones with technologies that truly matter. The first product lineup is the all-new Poco F1. This is a 21,000 INR Phone ($300) which comes with Snapdragon 845, Liquid Cooling and kevlar back. It basically beats other brands at this killer price segment and comes with a headphone jack and 4000mAh battery which is kind of rare in flagships these days.
Xiaomi Poco F1 comes with a 6.18-inch notched display, Snapdragon 845 processor, LiquidCool technology, 4,000mAh battery, and more. The phone features dual rear cameras, backed by Artificial Intelligence. The primary sensor is 12MP, while the second lens is a 5MP one. The front camera is 20MP with AI Beautify feature. The phone runs MIUI and it supports face unlock feature as well.

The Pocophone F1 looks and feel rather generic. We were obviously not expecting Note 9-like levels of design refinement, but the F1 falls short compared to competitors in its price range, and even some cheaper alternatives.
The feeling of cheapness largely comes from the polycarbonate back of the device. It’s not that it’s shoddy or flimsy, far from it. The finish of the dark grey (Graphite Black) version mimics metal quite well, but the F1 definitely feels less premium than the OnePlus 6 or Honor 10. On the flip side, the plastic back should fare better when dropped, even if it will scratch and wear faster than glass.
NFC is missing from the Pocophone F1, which is a shame, considering the Pocophone F1 will be sold in Europe, where NFC payment terminals are common. The USB Type-C port is a welcome surprise. Given how Xiaomi had to cut other features down, we were expecting an older micro USB port similar to the Vivo X21. The Pocophone F1 features a single speaker, found on the bottom (only one of the two grilles houses a speaker). It gets pretty loud, but it tends to buzz at high volumes.
The phone is priced starting at Rs 20,999 for 6GB RAM and 64GB storage model. The 6GB RAM and 128GB storage version of Poco F1 are priced at Rs 23,999, while its 8GB RAM and 256GB storage model will cost Rs 28,999. The Kevlar edition of Poco F1 is priced at Rs 29,999 and it will only be available in 8GB RAM option. If you’d like something a little fancier, you should look into the top Pocophone F1 version with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Called “Armored Edition”, this model comes with a back made of Kevlar fabric that resembles the Motorola Droid Razr from a few years ago.
The Xiaomi Poco F1 is a completely different category of affordable flagship which comes with Fibre back, Headphone Jack, 4000mAh Battery, Liquid cooling and Killer specifications at killer pricing. These essentials are very rare in today's flagship and this sets Poco apart. Additionally, Poco Launcher with app drawer and global availability tells us that this sub-brand POCO is aimed at western markets. We highly recommend this device.
