One of the biggest social media sites has decided to change its user's feed generating algorithm. Your Facebook feed will now show you more posts from your family and friends rather than news feeds and third party posts. On 11th Jan, this year, Mark Zuckerberg the CEO of Facebook wrote that his company was no longer aiming to only provide relevant content to the users of one of the largest social media platform, but rather to aim for meaningful interactions between users.

“We built Facebook to help people stay connected and bring us closer together with the people that matter to us,” Zuckerberg wrote. “But recently we’ve gotten feedback from our community that public content—posts from businesses, brands and media —is crowding out the personal moments that lead us to connect more with each other.”

This news is going to make the presence of companies and publishers on the platform lesser. But, Facebook also has provided users with the option to allow their favorite pages preference in their feeds by choosing "See First". The platform has also warned that tactics like "Like this in 5 mins to become lucky" will be punished.

Advertising has been the platform's largest revenue source. Mark Zuckerberg  had considered this move due to the rising pressure he has been getting from the public the news in the user's feed have been fake news and misleading content. This criticism grew during the 2016 election year where Facebook content was made by Russian-backed actors which reached more than a hundred million users, most of it promoting Trump.

Zuckerberg’s goals for 2018 included “making sure that time spent on Facebook is time well spent.” "This will be a serious year of self-improvement and I’m looking forward to learning from working to fix our issues together,” he wrote.
