Google recently announced through emails that Google Play Music will be discontinued later this year and will be replaced with YouTube Music.
These mails were sent to YouTube Premium holders that now they have the option to move their Google Play Music library to YouTube Music.
Once you transfer, you can continue to use Google Play Music, and your music library will still be there. Google Play Music will eventually go away later this year, but don’t worry – we’ll give you plenty of notice before that happens.
They also mention the added benefits of YouTube Premium over Play music subscription. Hopefully, they have made the transition simple. This also tells us that Movies might also come to YouTube and Play Movies might be replaced.
I am a happy YouTube Premium user and always wanted more movies and exclusive content on YouTube which is missing in India and this transition will definitely fix it to some extent.
